  • This Week’s Columbia TN Kids Guide • October 27th – November 2nd

The events in this week’s guide (October 27–November 2) highlight the final stretch of fall and Halloween festivities alongside the ongoing programs that keep the Columbia area calendar busy year-round. From story times and playgroups to Halloween fun and new local openings, there are plenty of kids activities to enjoy as we roll into November.

All of the seasonal happenings are captured in the Fall Events Guide, so this week’s list highlights everything else. The daily graphics will still include those fall favorites to make it easy to plan your day.

The Maury County Public Library officially closed for renovation on October 20, and curbside service is now available: Monday through Wednesday from 10 AM to 5 PM, Thursday and Friday from 10 AM to 5 PM, and Saturday from 10 AM to 1 PM. Programming has been a little confusing over the past couple of weeks, so it’s best to double-check any scheduled events before heading out. Most programs will look different in November, with a new calendar coming soon. Many of the children’s activities will move to the Maury County Archives Building, while others will continue at alternate locations.

And just a quick reminder that this weekend marks the end of Daylight Saving Time, so expect an early wake-up on Sunday as everyone adjusts to the time change. Woohoo

Here are a few events worth highlighting this week:

    • Villages Clubhouse Open Play (All Week)
This week’s sessions have a festive Halloween theme, featuring both indoor and outdoor sensory play for kids ages 1–5. Each setup includes rotating sensory stations and open-ended activities that encourage creativity and movement. If you haven’t visited yet, this is a great week to stop by and see what makes this local favorite such a hit with families.
    • The Mom & Me Club (Tuesday)
A new, cozy afternoon meetup at Love, Rae Grace Boutique in Spring Hill. It’s a relaxed, come-as-you-are environment where parents can chat while kids explore.
    • Storytime at Needle & Grain (Wednesday)
Guest reader Renee Leach leads storytime followed by a themed craft, plus parents receive a store discount during the event.
    • Pop-Up Halloween Music Classes (Friday)
Two festive First Notes Music classes at Columbia Dance Academy with singing, dancing, instruments, and trick-or-treat fun from Ms. Katie’s treat bowl. Costumes encouraged.
    • Crawlers & Cruisers Playgroup (Saturday)
A sensory play session at Villages Clubhouse for babies who are starting to move. Sessions are sometimes canceled if there aren’t sign-ups a few days ahead, so early registration is recommended.
    • Gimme Lemme Grand Opening (Saturday)
Celebrate the opening of their physical store inside The Factory Columbia, featuring dirty sodas, lemonades, and energy drinks.

While you’re at The Factory Columbia, stop by Victory Box Co, which recently reopened. It’s a slot car racing and game room perfect for families with kids of multiple ages, with foosball, air hockey, a small kids area, and more. Pricing is $8 for ages 3–6 and $12 for ages 7+, and you can stay and play as long as you like. Parents must stay with their children, and it’s a great indoor option for weekend family fun.

A quick note: Some businesses occasionally cancel sessions if there aren’t any sign-ups a few days ahead. If you see something listed that later disappears, or go to register and find it’s no longer available, that’s usually why. I do my best to keep everything up to date, but a few last-minute changes can slip through now and then. Also, workshops and events that require advanced preparation typically close registration a few days or 24 hours in advance to allow time to prepare.

Whether you’re planning a day out with the kids, looking for family activities in Columbia or Spring Hill, or just need fresh ideas for the week ahead, there’s always something fun happening nearby. Be sure to save or share this post so it’s easy to find when you’re planning next week’s adventures, and check back soon for more local kids events and family-friendly fun.

  • This Week’s Columbia TN Kids Guide • October 20th – October 26th

The events in this week’s guide (October 20–26) focus on the ongoing programs, community events, and family friendly activities that keep the week feeling full even without the pumpkins and hayrides. All of the seasonal happenings are already captured in the Fall Events Guide, so this week’s list highlights everything else. The daily graphics will still include those fall favorites to make it easy to plan your day.

The Maury County Public Library is scheduled to close this week, and any programs not yet moved off-site will pause until November. This includes Lego Lab, Lego Club, Baby Play Date, and Baby Music & Movement. Once the new schedule begins, several programs will take place at the Maury County Archives, and some will continue at other locations. I spoke with the children’s librarian recently who shared that the library’s website has also been updated, making it much easier to find events in the future, which is such great news.

If you’re looking for a safe and fun space for your baby to play during this short break, check out Baby Open Play at Villages Clubhouse. They have a dedicated room designed just for pre-walkers, with soft surfaces and age-appropriate activities. It’s typically held Tuesday and Thursday mornings.

Also, workshops and events that require advanced preparation typically will cancel or close registration a few days or 24 hours in advance to allow time to prepare.

Here are a few events worth highlighting this week:

From local story times to fall festivals, markets, and family activities, there’s always something happening for families in Maury County and southern Middle Tennessee. Thanks for following along and helping make this community a little more connected.

  • This Week’s Columbia TN Kids Guide • October 6th – October 12th

It’s fall break for many families in Maury County, so this week’s calendar (October 6–12) looks a little different. Some weekly programs may be cancelled or rescheduled, and Spring Hill Library programming will not take place on Tuesday. I did my best to check for changes, but please confirm before you go.

If you’re looking for seasonal outings, don’t forget to check the Fall Events Guide for pumpkin patches, festivals, and fall activities nearby. I’ll be updating it with more places to explore soon.

Here are a few events worth highlighting this week:

    • Baby Playtime at Villages Clubhouse (Tuesday & Thursday)
A dedicated session for pre-walking infants with tummy time, sensory toys, and development-focused activities.

    • Touch-a-Fire-Truck at Hidden Bee Animal Rescue (Saturday afternoon)
Kids can meet local firefighters, climb aboard real fire trucks, and enjoy a hands-on community event.

Maury County Public Library announced that renovations are set to begin on October 20, when the library will close. Programs are expected to continue off-site, though it is still unclear if some will shift earlier or remain at the library until the closure. I plan to confirm with the library early next week. In the meantime, please double-check with them before heading to a program.

I also want to acknowledge that I sometimes make mistakes. I may mistype or miss a detail, and other times hosts update their info or share conflicting posts. I’m sorry when that causes confusion, and I appreciate your understanding as I pull this guide together during nap times as an unpaid project. I am also still looking for sponsors, which would allow me to spend more time on the guide and make it as accurate and reliable as possible. If you’re interested or know someone who might be, please send me an email.

That wraps up this week’s event roundup! If you found it helpful, share it with a friend who might want to get out and explore too. I’m always keeping an eye out for new events to add, so be sure to check back throughout the week for updates and last-minute additions.

As always, check with each location for the latest details, since schedules and prices can sometimes change. And if you know of an event I haven’t included, send it my way so I can share it with other families too.

  • This Week’s Columbia TN Kids Guide • September 29th – October 5th

It’s shaping up to be another full week (September 29–October 5) around Columbia and Spring Hill, with a mix of familiar playgroups, library programs, and drop-ins alongside some bigger fall traditions.

Maury County Public Library recently shared that its renovation closure will take place sometime in October, not on October 1 as originally announced. Programs may be cancelled, rescheduled, or relocated, so it’s best to double-check their social media before heading to a library event.

Several events are listed as “all ages” or “open to all.” Families are always welcome, but it’s worth keeping in mind the type, style, and length of each program when deciding if it will be a good fit for younger children.

This week also brings the addition of a few more events outside the usual 30-minute radius. The goal is to support nearby small-town businesses and community gatherings in places like Pulaski, Centerville, and Lewisburg, while still keeping the main focus close to home.

Here are a few events worth highlighting:

    • Columbia Police Department CommUNITY Event (Tuesday)
A family-friendly evening to meet local officers, explore vehicles, and enjoy activities that build community connections.
    • Boo Buckets Workshop (Thursday)
Kids ages 4 and up can plant mums, pansies, and other fall blooms in a festive trick-or-treat bucket to take home.
    • First Friday (Friday)
Downtown Columbia comes alive with food trucks, late shopping, live music, and this month’s Team Jersey Night theme.
    • National Banana Pudding Festival (Saturday and Sunday)
A Southern tradition featuring pudding tastings, live music, vendors, and family-friendly activities in Centerville.

  • This Week’s Columbia TN Kids Guide • September 22nd – September 28th

It’s shaping up to be another busy week (September 22–28) around Columbia and Spring Hill. Alongside the usual playgroups, story times, and indoor drop-ins, the calendar brings big seasonal openings, hands-on workshops, and unique events you won’t want to miss.

In case you haven’t already heard, the Maury County Public Library will close sometime in October for renovations to the main floor. While the children’s section is downstairs, the entire building will be closed during the work, which is expected to last several months. Programs will be cancelled, relocated, or rescheduled. Stay tuned for updates.

Saturday is especially full, but there’s fun happening all week long. Here are a few highlights:

    • Firefly Garden Club – Fall Orchard Workshop (Thursday)
A hands-on session at the Villages Clubhouse where kids ages 4 and up can make apple-stamped totes, enjoy a tasting, and explore fall harvest projects. A creative, seasonal way to spend the morning.
    • Mid-South Steamers Fall Meet (Friday–Saturday)
Free train rides return at Maury County Park. This one gets busy fast, so plan to arrive early if you want to avoid long waits.
    • Dinosaur Explorers with Parks & Rec (Friday)
A fossil dig, dino hunt, and themed prizes all packed into an afternoon at Woodland Park. If you haven’t seen the promo video Columbia Parks & Rec created for this event, it’s worth a watch.
    • Pumpkin Paradise Opening Day (Saturday)
From slides and hayrides to farm animals and a garden kids can dig into, this local favorite is back for the season.
    • Columbia Comic Book & Toy Expo (Saturday)
A family-friendly expo featuring vintage comics, collectibles, toys, Pokémon, and more.
    • Making Sense of Solids (Saturday)
Villages Child Development leads this hybrid course for parents ready to explore baby-led weaning, purees, or a mix of both.
    • Dark Horse Dinner (Saturday evening)
Families can enjoy BBQ, ice cream, and lawn games on the Polk Home grounds while supporting this historic landmark.

My family will be missing the fun this weekend, but I’d love to see what you’re up to. If you head out, tag Columbia TN Kids Guide so others can follow along.

Whether you’re planning to stick close to home or try something new, this week is full of chances to get out and enjoy time together. From trains and dinosaurs to pumpkins and comic books, there’s plenty waiting on the calendar.

My family will be missing the fun over the weekend, but I’d love to see what you’re up to. If you head out, tag Columbia TN Kids Guide in your photos and posts so other local families can discover new ideas, too.

  • This Week’s Columbia TN Kids Guide • September 15th – September 21st

It’s a big week (September 15–21) around Columbia and Spring Hill as fall fun officially kicks off. You’ll find your usual playgroups, storytimes, and indoor drop-ins, but the calendar also marks the beginning of seasonal favorites like pumpkin patches, fall festivals, and even a few early Halloween touches.

Saturday is especially packed, and you might have a hard time narrowing things down. Whether you’re looking for a quiet playgroup, a hands-on craft, or a full-on fall outing, there’s something for everyone.

Here are a few events worth highlighting:

    • Public tickets open for Mother Son: Battle at the Pit with aMuse’um (Monday)
This popular Nerf-filled evening is likely to be a sell-out, so don’t wait if it’s on your list.
    • Watercolor Butterfly Magnets at Farmer Fred’s Wife (Wednesday afternoon)
A sweet and simple paint project in a warm, welcoming farm setting. Personal note: This one is run by a friend of mine, and it’s a great option if you’re craving a slower pace.
    • Stuffed Animal Sleepover at Maury County Library (Thursday morning)
Drop off your child’s favorite stuffy for a night of library mischief. Photos of their adventures will be ready when you pick them up the next day.
    • Hidden Bee Pumpkin Patch Opening Day (Friday)
A favorite local patch opens for the season with expanded vendor options and farm animal visits. Free to attend, and just a peaceful spot to start soaking in the season.
    • Mom Walk Family Meetup (Saturday morning)
Head to Sarah Benson Park in Thompson’s Station for a low-key walk, playtime, and a chance to connect with other moms and caregivers. This one is stroller-friendly and great for all ages.
    • Make Your Own Bath Bombs at Farmer Fred’s Wife (Saturday afternoon)
Kids get to take home six custom bath bombs + materials, and it’s a good fit for kids ages 2 and up (with grown-up help). Just like the butterfly magnets event, this one is also held on a private family farm that’s easy to relax into.

If you missed it, the 2025 Fall Guide went live Friday with dozens of seasonal events happening in and around Columbia. It’s divided into three sections to help you quickly find what you’re looking for:

    • Pumpkin Patches, Corn Mazes & Orchards: farms and ongoing experiences open throughout the fall
    • Fall Festivals:  one-day or weekend events that are perfect for family outings
    • Haunted Attractions:  designed for older kids, teens, and adults; not recommended for young kids but included since they’re local

As new events are announced, the guide will be updated along with the calendar. You can check it out here:

That wraps up the Columbia TN Kids Guide for the week of September 15–21. With the shift into fall, your family schedule might be starting to change, too. Whether you’re craving consistency or ready to try something new, I hope this guide helps you find a few simple, good moments in the week ahead.

As always, check with each location for the latest details, since schedules and prices can sometimes change. And if you know of an event I haven’t included, send it my way so I can share it with other families too.

  • This Week’s Columbia TN Kids Guide • August 4th – August 10th

The first full week of August is here, and for many families, school starts back this week. If your kids are heading off to school, especially if you have one starting kindergarten, it can be a big transition. I’m thinking about you and hoping that first day goes as smoothly as possible.

This week’s calendar has a little bit of everything to help ease into a new routine or shake up an old one. Here are a few events worth adding to your plans:

    • Artist of the Week / Crafternoon at Maury County Library, geared toward ages 5–12 but open to all (Monday afternoon). This program isn’t new, but it might be just the thing your kid needs after their first day of school.
    • National Night Out at Fischer Park in Spring Hill (Tuesday evening)
    • Story Time at Needle & Grain with a guest reader from Hattie Jane’s Creamery 🍦 (Wednesday morning)
    • A special Friday storytime at Maury County Library with the Chick-fil-A Cow (Friday morning)
    • Storytime LIVE! at Kiddie Academy in Spring Hill (Friday evening)
    • Blue Gene Bookshop Story Time at Villages Clubhouse (Saturday morning)

Also, if it’s been a while since you’ve been to a storytime at Maury County Library (like it had been for us), it’s worth checking out again. They’re reading more books, adding more songs, and the new children’s librarian is fantastic. She’s a great addition to an already wonderful team, and the turnout really proves it. We dropped in last Tuesday and were genuinely impressed.

Scroll down for the full schedule with daily events, costs, and quick notes to help you plan the week.

  • Local School Supply Giveaways 2025 and Tax-Free Weekend Info for Columbia, TN

Local School Supply Giveaways 2025 and Tax-Free Weekend Info for Columbia, TN

I’ve seen several posts recently from parents looking for school supply assistance in Columbia, TN, and with back-to-school just around the corner, I thought it might help to round up all the local school supply giveaway events I’ve been able to find.

These are typically designed to support families who could use a little help covering school-related expenses. If you’re in that spot, I hope you find an event here that works with your schedule. While Columbia TN Kids Guide typically shares events that focus on younger kids, this roundup includes resources for school-age children, including incoming kindergarteners who fall into the age range I’m looking to support.

This list includes everything I’ve come across so far, but I know I may have missed something and more events may be added. If you know of additional local school supply events or resources, please email me and I’ll gladly add it.

While school supply shopping isn’t on my list this summer, I spent a big part of my teenage years helping families complete their back to school shopping. Because of this, I know just how stressful and expensive it can be.

And if you’re planning to shop for school supplies, don’t forget that Tennessee’s tax-free weekend runs from Friday, July 25 through Sunday, July 27, 2025. It’s a great chance to save on school supplies, clothing, and more. More on that at the end.

Please note: Columbia TN Kids Guide is not affiliated with any of the organizations hosting these events. If you have questions, need more details, or want to confirm anything, please reach out to the event organizers directly. Event times and details may change, so it’s always a good idea to double-check before you go.
