If you are looking for kids activities in Columbia, TN or family events around Maury County, this weekly guide covers everything happening for families from December 1 through December 7, 2025. Each week, I share an easy to scan list of local events for babies, toddlers, and young kids, along with holiday activities, free events, and simple things to do with your family around Columbia and Spring Hill. This week brings a mix of indoor play, community events, and seasonal outings to help you plan ahead.

Now that December is here, the calendar is packed from beginning to end. With so many Christmas events happening this month, I decided to keep Christmas specific activities primarily in two places: the Christmas Guide and the monthly calendar. This keeps everything organized and makes it easier to update if details change. If you are looking for anything from cookie decorating to places to get Santa pictures, the Christmas Guide is your one stop resource. I will continue sharing calendar screenshots in Facebook and Instagram stories, and those will include only Columbia and Spring Hill Christmas events.

A couple notes for this week:

aMuse’um is closed on Monday and will close at 3:00 PM on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday for deep cleaning and painting.

The Frosty Reads December Reading Challenge also kicks off this week. You can log your reading all month long to earn digital badges and discover new books as the year wraps up.

There are also a few ongoing holiday activities to keep in mind, including Blue Gene Bookshop’s holiday book bundles through December 10, Santa’s Mailbox at Love Rae Grace Boutique in Spring Hill through December 14, and Serenity the Elf’s Christmas Scavenger Hunt with Elia Day Spa through December 13.

Description: Today’s project is Lava Lamp Experiments. Wonder Station encourages kids to explore, question, and experiment. 🎨 After School Art Break (Spring Hill)

Things to Do With Kids in Columbia and Spring Hill This Week

The week before Thanksgiving is still packed with ways to spend time with your kids. While most of this week’s lineup includes familiar favorites, there are also a few new events sprinkled in that are worth noting and highlighted below.

If you’re looking for Christmas activities, those won’t be included in the weekly guide or on the calendar. You can find them all in the Christmas Events Guide instead. If you have some favorite traditions that you haven’t booked yet, they may already be sold out, but there are still plenty of festive events to choose from that have availability or don’t require tickets.

Here are a few events worth highlighting this week:

• The Mom Walk Co. Columbia’s First Meetup (Tuesday Morning)
  You may have attended one of these walks with the Spring Hill group, but this one is brand new for Columbia, and it’s exciting to see a local chapter start up.
• Story Time with Jake at Spring Hill Public Library (Wednesday Morning)
  A fun, musical story time led by Jacob “Jake” Johnson with songs, puppets, and laughter for all ages.
• Living Ornaments Workshop (Thursday Morning)
  Kids ages 4 and up can create a living ornament using succulents and seasonal decorations. These workshops tend to waitlist, so it’s best to sign up early.
• Daddy Daughter & Mother Son Dance (Friday Evening)
  A sweet evening out hosted by Chick-fil-A Columbia, celebrating parent and child connections. Advanced registration is required, and this is a ticketed event.

Things to Do With Kids in Columbia and Spring Hill This Week

The fall season has officially wrapped up, and downtown Columbia has already flipped the switch to Christmas with the tree lighting marking the start of the holiday season. While the early holiday excitement is fun, this is also the perfect time to pause and remember what the Thanksgiving season is really about: gratitude. It’s a season for slowing down, taking a breath, and appreciating the good things in our lives, big and small.

Before the holiday rush completely takes over, I want to say how thankful I am for all of you who follow along, share kind words, and support Columbia TN Kids Guide. This little project has grown because of your encouragement and community spirit, and that means so much.

This week also brings Veterans Day on Tuesday, which feels like a good reminder of how many people in our community give and serve in different ways. Some places may be closed, so it’s a good idea to double-check hours before heading out. Stroller Workout and Walk is canceled for Tuesday but will return with a new later time next week. There are also at least two Veterans Day parades if you’d like to get out and show your support.

It’s also the time of year to look out for others, whether that’s through volunteering, food or toy donations, or monetary contributions. The holidays can be joyful, but they can also be hard for some families, and a small act of kindness can make a big difference. If you’re in a position to give, there are plenty of opportunities to support neighbors in need right here in our community. Things to Do With Kids in Columbia and Spring Hill This Week

Fall events have mostly wrapped up, and this week has a calmer pace with plenty of fun to choose from. And while Thanksgiving is technically the next holiday on the calendar, Christmas is already sneaking its way into town. This week even brings a few early holiday-themed events, so ready or not, here they come.

I’m also working on a full Winter Guide (similar to the Fall Guide), which will include tree farms, lights, and one-time seasonal events around Columbia and Spring Hill. I’ll publish it as soon as possible so you can start planning your family outings for the season.

Since it’s the start of a new month, a few places are still finalizing their November calendars and adding upcoming programs. I have several emails out to confirm details and am waiting on updates from a few local favorites that typically post after the month begins. As new events are announced, I’ll keep the calendar updated so you can check back anytime.

Quick local highlight: There’s a new play spot in Spring Hill that’s already getting great feedback from local parents. Maddy’s Playhouse offers a clean, thoughtfully designed space for babies, toddlers, and young kids, with a dedicated toddler area and a comfortable setup for parents too.

The owner shared that the Grand Opening Celebration will be Saturday, November 8, from 1:00 to 5:00 PM, with local vendors, raffles, a prize wheel, giveaways, and games, plus drop-in play open during the event. Families can also enjoy ice cream from Cold Front and Legacy Coffee through Jurassic Perk, and she mentioned plans to host occasional community and educational events in the future.

You’ll also notice some updates to how this guide is shared. I’ve decided to step back from daily graphics completely. This guide is still an unpaid project, and when events were added, changed, or canceled, I was often updating eight different places each time. To protect my time with my daughter, I’m keeping the focus here and on the calendar. Weekly graphics will serve as reminders to check the site rather than list every event. Here are a few events worth highlighting this week:

• Stroller Workout and Walk (Tuesday Morning)
  This one will continue as long as people keep showing up, which honestly makes me smile. A friendly way to move your body and get some fresh air with little ones in tow.
• Spice Cabinet Workshop w/ Firefly Garden Club for Ages 4+ (Thursday Morning)
  A hands-on sensory class where kids create their own spice blends while learning how cinnamon, nutmeg, and herbs are used in holiday baking and cooking. Advance registration is required.
• Homeschool Day at the Polk Home (Friday Morning)
  Explore hands-on activities that connect President James K. Polk’s story to American military history through crafts, battle mapping, and guided tours. A come-and-go event that runs rain or shine and offers something for every age.
• Taste Buddies 3-Week Series (Friday Late Morning)
  A small-group, parent-and-me feeding series for ages 3–5 led by pediatric professionals. Advance registration is required, and spots are limited.
• First Fridays in Downtown Columbia (Saturday Evening)
  November’s “Happy Feast-mas” brings community tables, the downtown tree lighting with Mr. and Mrs. Claus, and plenty of local shopping to kick off the season.
• Columbia Noon Rotary Club Pancake Day (Saturday All Day)
  A longtime local favorite with pancakes for a cause. Affordable, easy, and a fun way to start Saturday morning.

A quick note: some businesses cancel sessions if there aren’t any sign-ups a few days ahead. If you see something listed that later disappears, or you try to register and it’s closed, that’s usually why. I do my best to keep everything up to date, but a few last-minute changes can slip through.

Description: Enjoy open-ended indoor and outdoor sensory play designed for kids around ages 1–5. This week’s theme is Fan Favorites, featuring a mix of popular play stations from past sessions. There’s plenty of space for free exploration, and you’re welcome to stay and play as long as you like during your time slot. If you miss the 9:00 AM sign-up, you can register for the 10:30 AM slot and arrive anytime. If arriving after 10:30 AM, on-site ticket purchase is required due to the online cutoff. Please note this is not a drop-off program.

👶 Baby Time (Spring Hill)

Description: Rhymes, songs, and stories designed for babies from birth to age 2 and their caregivers. Build early literacy skills and enjoy social time during this interactive session, followed by open play.

📚 Story Time with Maury County Public Library (Off-Site)

Description: Join Maury County Public Library at the Archives Building for story time while the main library undergoes renovations. This week’s theme is Joyful Living, featuring stories, rhymes, and simple activities for young children.

Please note that library programs have been somewhat inconsistent lately, so it’s best to double-check their Facebook page or call before attending.

🎨 Messy Zone
Location: aMuse’um Children’s Museum (123 W 7th St #3213, Columbia)
Time: 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM
Cost: Included with play session ($12 per child; one adult free per paid child, additional adults $6). Free for members. (Reserve a spot)
Description: Hands-on messy fun that encourages artistic expression, fine motor skill development, and imaginative thinking. Kids will explore new textures and materials while building creativity in a playful, open-ended setting. Today’s project is ooey gooey oobleck, a sensory favorite that’s both fascinating and fun to play with. This program is included with the regular 10:00–12:30 play session, so the $12 admission (non-members) covers the full playtime.

🧱 Clay Craft Night
Location: Mount Pleasant Public Library (Mount Pleasant, TN)
