  • This Week’s Columbia TN Kids Guide • August 4th – August 10th

The first full week of August is here, and for many families, school starts back this week. If your kids are heading off to school, especially if you have one starting kindergarten, it can be a big transition. I’m thinking about you and hoping that first day goes as smoothly as possible.

This week’s calendar has a little bit of everything to help ease into a new routine or shake up an old one. Here are a few events worth adding to your plans:

    • Artist of the Week / Crafternoon at Maury County Library, geared toward ages 5–12 but open to all (Monday afternoon). This program isn’t new, but it might be just the thing your kid needs after their first day of school.
    • National Night Out at Fischer Park in Spring Hill (Tuesday evening)
    • Story Time at Needle & Grain with a guest reader from Hattie Jane’s Creamery 🍦 (Wednesday morning)
    • A special Friday storytime at Maury County Library with the Chick-fil-A Cow (Friday morning)
    • Storytime LIVE! at Kiddie Academy in Spring Hill (Friday evening)
    • Blue Gene Bookshop Story Time at Villages Clubhouse (Saturday morning)

Also, if it’s been a while since you’ve been to a storytime at Maury County Library (like it had been for us), it’s worth checking out again. They’re reading more books, adding more songs, and the new children’s librarian is fantastic. She’s a great addition to an already wonderful team, and the turnout really proves it. We dropped in last Tuesday and were genuinely impressed.

Scroll down for the full schedule with daily events, costs, and quick notes to help you plan the week.

I don’t know about y’all, but it doesn’t feel like summer should be winding down just yet. At the same time, it’s kind of been a whirlwind of events, activities, and hot days that all blur together.

August still has plenty of fun ahead, but around here, we’ll be leaning into the indoor options because honestly, the heat and humidity are too much for this mom.

Be on the lookout for new activities from Columbia Parks & Rec. There’s talk they may start offering more weekday story times at parks around town once the older kids are back in school. I also heard that a local bookshop may start hosting story time as well. I’ll share updates as I hear more from both.

Hope you find something this week that brings a little joy or helps shake up your routine.

  • This Week’s Columbia TN Kids Guide • July 14–20

July 14th – 20th rolls in quietly, then finishes with a Saturday sprint of markets, crafts, music, and a family movie night around Columbia and Spring Hill. Weekly staples anchor the schedule: library story times, Bubble Fun and Tinkering Station at aMuse’um, and an early-start stroller workout that beats the heat. A handful of one-time events add variety before Saturday packs the calendar from morning to night.

    One-time highlights to watch for:

    • Summer Pop-up from A Worthy Cause with games and splash-pad water play at Riverwalk Park (Saturday late morning)
    • Lego Block Party for creative builders at Columbia Aquatics & Recreation — membership or day pass required (Thursday morning)
    • Flower Pot Painting at Woodland Park followed by Park Play Day with a giant soccer-dart game in Spring Hill (both Friday)
    • Story Time with Blue Gene Bookshop featuring Camellia Chocolates as guest reader, plus a take-home craft (Saturday morning)

Be sure to scroll down for the full day-by-day guide, especially for Saturday. There are even more events than could fit in the social media graphic. The full schedule includes times, costs, and quick notes to help you plan.

Note: You may notice a few school supply giveaways listed in the blog and calendar, but not included on the social media graphics. That’s intentional. While these events are helpful for families with kids entering kindergarten and up, they aren’t the best fit for most families in the 0–5 age range. I still wanted to include them here in case they’re helpful to you or someone you know.

    That’s your week!

From creek stomps and storytimes to bubbles, markets, and boba, there’s something to make the days feel just a little more full. If you’ve already spotted an event or two your family might enjoy, I’d love to hear what you’re planning.

Feel free to share this list with a friend who’s looking for ideas. I’ll post simple daily reminders on social media each evening in case that’s an easier way to keep up.

  • Weekly Columbia TN Kids & Family Fun Guide (June 2nd – June 8th, 2025)

Summer’s here, the days feel a little slower (or longer, depending on nap schedules), and it’s a great time to mix up your routine with something fun. Whether you’re looking to cool off indoors, meet other moms, or just give your kids something new to explore, this week has a full lineup of events for families with young children.

A few quick updates before we dive in:
    – Columbia Parks and Recreation released their June calendar, and several of their events have been added to the monthly calendar. Since the release didn’t include times or descriptions, those events won’t be included in the weekly guide until more details are available.
    – aMUSE’um’s Art Station and Science Station are on break for the summer and will return in the fall. In the meantime, they’ve added an extra Tinkering Station and a new Bubble Fun program.
    – The Homestead Festival is sold out this weekend. If that’s part of your plans, you may already be juggling a full schedule. If not, there’s still plenty happening around town.
    – More activities may pop up as the week goes on, so check back in case anything new is added.

Friday and Saturday are especially full with local favorites like First Friday and Strolling on 6th, plus Touch-a-Truck, the Color Our World summer reading kickoff, and a huge bounce house celebration in Spring Hill.
