  • This Week’s Columbia TN Kids Guide • September 15th – September 21st

It’s a big week (September 15–21) around Columbia and Spring Hill as fall fun officially kicks off. You’ll find your usual playgroups, storytimes, and indoor drop-ins, but the calendar also marks the beginning of seasonal favorites like pumpkin patches, fall festivals, and even a few early Halloween touches.

Saturday is especially packed, and you might have a hard time narrowing things down. Whether you’re looking for a quiet playgroup, a hands-on craft, or a full-on fall outing, there’s something for everyone.

Here are a few events worth highlighting:

    • Public tickets open for Mother Son: Battle at the Pit with aMuse’um (Monday)
This popular Nerf-filled evening is likely to be a sell-out, so don’t wait if it’s on your list.
    • Watercolor Butterfly Magnets at Farmer Fred’s Wife (Wednesday afternoon)
A sweet and simple paint project in a warm, welcoming farm setting. Personal note: This one is run by a friend of mine, and it’s a great option if you’re craving a slower pace.
    • Stuffed Animal Sleepover at Maury County Library (Thursday morning)
Drop off your child’s favorite stuffy for a night of library mischief. Photos of their adventures will be ready when you pick them up the next day.
    • Hidden Bee Pumpkin Patch Opening Day (Friday)
A favorite local patch opens for the season with expanded vendor options and farm animal visits. Free to attend, and just a peaceful spot to start soaking in the season.
    • Mom Walk Family Meetup (Saturday morning)
Head to Sarah Benson Park in Thompson’s Station for a low-key walk, playtime, and a chance to connect with other moms and caregivers. This one is stroller-friendly and great for all ages.
    • Make Your Own Bath Bombs at Farmer Fred’s Wife (Saturday afternoon)
Kids get to take home six custom bath bombs + materials, and it’s a good fit for kids ages 2 and up (with grown-up help). Just like the butterfly magnets event, this one is also held on a private family farm that’s easy to relax into.

If you missed it, the 2025 Fall Guide went live Friday with dozens of seasonal events happening in and around Columbia. It’s divided into three sections to help you quickly find what you’re looking for:

    • Pumpkin Patches, Corn Mazes & Orchards: farms and ongoing experiences open throughout the fall
    • Fall Festivals:  one-day or weekend events that are perfect for family outings
    • Haunted Attractions:  designed for older kids, teens, and adults; not recommended for young kids but included since they’re local

As new events are announced, the guide will be updated along with the calendar. You can check it out here:

This is my first year putting together a fall guide for Columbia, TN and the surrounding area, and I’ve loved discovering all the places families can explore together. Tennessee-Wide Resource

Pick TN Products – Pumpkin Farms (Website)

Pick TN Products is a free statewide service dedicated to connecting people with Tennessee farms, farmers markets, and food businesses. Their pumpkin directory lists dozens of farms across Middle Tennessee. Because these farms vary widely in whether they have an online presence, it can be unclear if each location offers u-pick pumpkin patches or if they simply sell pumpkins as part of their farm. This directory is a useful place to explore additional options beyond the confirmed farms listed. Families are encouraged to call ahead before visiting, since details are not always available online.

Trunk or Treat & Trick-or-Treat Events

Not everyone can go trick-or-treating on Halloween night, or you may just prefer a more family-friendly setting than the traditional neighborhood route. This list focuses on Columbia and Spring Hill, where there’s no shortage of these events to choose from. I’ve also included a few nearby small towns and other gatherings that stand out for their community feel. Franklin and Nashville aren’t included, since the usual focus of the kids guide is on smaller, local events that bring neighbors together and support community fun.

Note: These listings are true Trunk or Treat and Trick-or-Treat events. If an event includes additional activities or feels more like a full community celebration, you’ll find it in the Fall Festivals section above instead.

Below you’ll find confirmed Trunk or Treat and Trick-or-Treat events for 2025 in date order. I’ll continue to add more as they’re announced, so be sure to check back for updates throughout October.

Whether you’re looking for a nearby pumpkin patch, a one-day festival, or a haunted attraction for older kids and teens, there are plenty of ways to enjoy fall around Columbia and Spring Hill. This guide will be updated as new events are announced, so check back often.

Since this is my first year exploring fall options in the area, there’s always a chance I may have missed something, especially smaller community events that spread by word of mouth. If you know of a local festival, patch, or event that should be included, I’d love to hear about it so this list stays as helpful and complete as possible for families in our community.

  • This Week’s Columbia TN Kids Guide • September 8th – September 14th

The week ahead (September 8–14) is steady with familiar favorites and routines for families across Columbia and Spring Hill. While most of the calendar is filled with returning story times, play sessions, and library programs, there are a couple of updates worth noting.

It’s not too late to sign up for First Notes Music’s Fall Session, starting Monday at Columbia Dance Academy. Classes run for 10 weeks with three Monday options (9:30, 10:30, and an 11:45 babies-only class). Spots are limited, so grab one while you can. Sign up here.

Villages Clubhouse has also introduced a new Weekender Package for $10 a month. It’s a great option for working families who want weekend access to the toy library and discounted open play & playgroup sessions.

I’ve added Shining Light Gymnastics open play and ninja open play back into the calendar since so many families have asked about it recently, but please remember their pricing and packages are subject to change.

The same goes for all local businesses and events. Schedules, costs, and memberships can shift, and since I’m not the host I may not always catch those updates right away. It’s always a good idea to double-check details directly before heading out.

Here are a few events worth highlighting this week:

    • Villages Clubhouse Open Play (Monday–Saturday mornings)
This week features a Construction theme with rotating sensory and imaginative play stations for ages 1 – 5.
    • Stroller Workouts & Walks (Tuesday morning)
Columbia Parks & Rec’s parent-and-child fitness meetup returns after taking a week off and moves back to a 9 AM start time.
    • Discovery Gymnastics Open Play (Wednesday & Thursday mornings)
An active indoor play hour for kids of all ages. It’s a great option to get out of the house for a bit on rainy days.
    • Tummy Time at Villages Clubhouse (Friday morning)
A parent-and-me playgroup designed to support babies (3 weeks and up) through early development.
    • Taste Buddies at Villages Clubhouse (Friday late morning)
The three-week September series kicks off for preschoolers ages 3–5 to build positive food experiences in a supportive setting.
    • My First Robot Parent & Child Workshop (Saturday afternoon, ages 4–7)
A hands-on robotics class where kids and parents build and play with bots together.

The full weekly lineup is below, with times, costs, and sign-up links included to make planning simple.

Whether you’re heading to the fair, trying a new class, or sticking to a favorite routine, I hope you find something in the mix that helps make the week a little easier and a little more fun.

See something missing? Leave a comment or send me an email and I’ll get it added. I love hearing about kid-friendly events and making sure the guide has the most complete list possible.

  • This Week’s Columbia TN Kids Guide • August 18th – August 24th

The week ahead (August 18th–24th) is full of opportunities to get out, connect, and keep the kids entertained. Each day offers a mix of regular favorites and special one-time events, so there’s something for just about every schedule.

The weekly event and activity guides now have a new home to make them easier to find. Starting this week, you’ll also see signup and registration links wherever it makes sense, so you can plan ahead without extra searching.

Here are a few events worth highlighting this week:

    • KidConnect Fair Spring Hill(Tuesday morning)
    • Story Time at Needle & Grain with Special Guest Bradley Mountain (Wednesday morning)
    • Tummy Time at Villages Clubhouse (Saturday morning)
    • Open House with Martial Arts Lessons (Saturday afternoon)
    • Garden Focaccia Workshop with Firefly Garden Club (Sunday afternoon)

You’ll also spot a couple of new events in Chapel Hill. It’s just outside the usual 30-minute range, but worth mentioning, especially the $5 open gym (cash or Venmo) if you are nearby.

For those who want to stay local, Discovery Gymnastics open play is worth it. We checked it out last week and it was worth every penny for how much fun my daughter had and how well she napped afterward. You can see some pictures from our visit in last week’s Reel.

If you’re looking for something more structured, they mentioned their Parent & Child class (for ages 18 months and up) still has a couple open spots on Wednesdays from 9:00–9:45 AM. You can check with them directly about sign-up and costs, and find more details here.

Reminder: Unless an event clearly states otherwise, plan to stay with your child during activities. The majority of these events are not drop-off programs.

  • This Week’s Columbia TN Kids Guide • August 4th – August 10th

The first full week of August is here, and for many families, school starts back this week. If your kids are heading off to school, especially if you have one starting kindergarten, it can be a big transition. I’m thinking about you and hoping that first day goes as smoothly as possible.

This week’s calendar has a little bit of everything to help ease into a new routine or shake up an old one. Here are a few events worth adding to your plans:

    • Artist of the Week / Crafternoon at Maury County Library, geared toward ages 5–12 but open to all (Monday afternoon). This program isn’t new, but it might be just the thing your kid needs after their first day of school.
    • National Night Out at Fischer Park in Spring Hill (Tuesday evening)
    • Story Time at Needle & Grain with a guest reader from Hattie Jane’s Creamery 🍦 (Wednesday morning)
    • A special Friday storytime at Maury County Library with the Chick-fil-A Cow (Friday morning)
    • Storytime LIVE! at Kiddie Academy in Spring Hill (Friday evening)

Also, if it’s been a while since you’ve been to a storytime at Maury County Library (like it had been for us), it’s worth checking out again. They’re reading more books, adding more songs, and the new children’s librarian is fantastic. She’s a great addition to an already wonderful team, and the turnout really proves it. We dropped in last Tuesday and were genuinely impressed.

I don’t know about y’all, but it doesn’t feel like summer should be winding down just yet. At the same time, it’s kind of been a whirlwind of events, activities, and hot days that all blur together.

August still has plenty of fun ahead, but around here, we’ll be leaning into the indoor options because honestly, the heat and humidity are too much for this mom.

Be on the lookout for new activities from Columbia Parks & Rec. There’s talk they may start offering more weekday story times at parks around town once the older kids are back in school. I also heard that a local bookshop may start hosting story time as well. I’ll share updates as I hear more from both.

Hope you find something this week that brings a little joy or helps shake up your routine.

  • Where to Find Swim Lessons in Columbia, TN for Babies, Toddlers, and Preschoolers

Where to Find Swim Lessons in Columbia, TN for Babies, Toddlers, and Preschoolers

Find last-minute swim openings for summer 2025 and plan ahead for 2026.

It should be simple to find a swim instructor close to home. As Columbia continues to grow, so does the need for local resources that help families connect with trusted programs. This guide was created to make it easier for parents, grandparents, and caregivers to find instructors right here in our own community.

This first version is being published to support families still looking for lessons this summer. It is not a complete list, and the goal is to expand it over time. Some instructors still have availability as early as the week of July 28, and for now, listings are organized alphabetically based on who still has openings for the rest of Summer 2025.

Over a dozen instructors and businesses recommended in local groups were contacted while putting this together. Many have not responded, and a few shared that they are retired or no longer offering lessons. If someone is missing from the list, feel free to reach out to check whether they’ve already been contacted. The guide will continue to be updated as more instructors reply.

Unless an instructor specifically provided a price, pricing has been left off to avoid sharing outdated or inaccurate information. Families are encouraged to reach out directly for the most current rates.

If you’re just starting to explore swim lessons, the section below breaks down the most common types and who they’re best for.

If you’re ready to find an instructor, scroll down to see who’s currently offering lessons in 2025 or who to watch for in 2026.

Types of Swim Lessons: What’s the Best Fit for Your Family?

Not all swim lessons are the same. Each approach has different goals, methods, and structures. Here’s a quick overview of the most common types, with pros and cons to help you decide what might work best for your child and your comfort level.

    ISR (Infant Swimming Resource)

What it is: A highly structured, survival-based program that teaches infants and young children to roll onto their backs and float unassisted in the water.

Format: One-on-one, daily short sessions (usually 10 minutes per day, 5 days a week, for several weeks)

    Pros:

    • Focuses on water survival skills
    • Highly personalized and instructor-led
    • Builds strong foundational safety early

    Cons:

    • Time-intensive (daily commitment)
    • Emotionally challenging, especially in the early days
    • May not be the right fit for families looking for a more relaxed or play-based introduction

Good fit if: You’re most concerned about safety and drowning prevention, and you’re open to a more intensive program upfront.

    Private Lessons

What it is: One-on-one instruction focused on swimming skills, usually at the child’s pace and comfort level.

Format: Scheduled weekly or semi-weekly sessions, often in a home or instructor’s pool

    Pros:

    • Individual attention tailored to your child’s needs
    • Flexible scheduling
    • Builds trust between child and instructor

    Cons:

    • More expensive than group lessons
    • May lack peer interaction for kids who enjoy group settings

Good fit if: You want a gentle, personalized approach and flexible scheduling, especially for younger or more timid swimmers.

    Group Lessons

What it is: Small group classes taught by one or more instructors, often through community centers, gyms, or swim schools

Format: Weekly or biweekly sessions in a shared setting

    Pros:

    • Lower cost per session
    • Social environment can encourage participation
    • Often follows a consistent, skill-based curriculum

    Cons:

    • Less individual attention
    • May move too fast or too slow for your child’s needs
    • Not ideal for fearful swimmers

Good fit if: Your child enjoys group settings and you’re looking for a budget-friendly option with steady progress over time.

    A Note Before You Go

Again, this list is not complete and will continue to be updated as more instructors respond or new openings are announced. If someone is offering swim lessons in the Columbia area and isn’t listed here, feel free to reach out by email or send a message.

This guide is not sponsored, and no listings are paid. It was created to help families connect with local instructors without having to scroll through endless group posts. The focus is on instructors offering lessons in Columbia, because finding a swim instructor shouldn’t require long drives to Franklin or Nashville.

The guide will be revisited in spring 2026, and efforts will be made to follow up with instructors who didn’t respond previously in order to keep the list as current and helpful as possible.

If this guide has been helpful, consider bookmarking it or sharing it with a friend who’s still looking for lessons or planning ahead for next year.
