Spring is officially here in Columbia and Spring Hill, and family weekends are starting to fill up with sports, practices, and outdoor events. If you’re looking for family events, kid-friendly activities, or things to do with kids this week or this weekend, this guide pulls together local options so you can quickly see what’s happening around town, decide how you want to spend time together, and do it without opening ten different tabs.
Speaking of spending time together, it is not too late to jump into the Spring 2026 Music Together® Maracas Session with First Notes Music. New families can still use the one-time code “KIDSGUIDE10” to save $10, with classes kicking off Monday in Columbia and Tuesday or Wednesday in Spring Hill, and you can check the website for the most up to date schedule.
Even this past week, my daughter has blown me away with how much she has gotten out of these classes. She grabbed the songbooks from previous sessions and started singing songs from different pages all on her own, and it was such a beautiful sight. I am beyond grateful to Ms. Katie for reaching out last year, because I would not have known about these classes otherwise.
I’m also grateful for our continued featured partnership with Maddy’s Playhouse, affectionately known in our house as the “Dino place.” Families can use the code KIDSGUIDE for 15% off individual Open Play passes purchased online or in person (discount applies to open play only and does not include memberships, pass packs, or Café purchases).
If you’re tracking upcoming sports and activity season kickoffs, here are are few for this week:
- Knee-High Naturalist Spring Series Kick-Off for Ages 3–5 (Brentwood) – Weekly spring nature series for ages 3–5 and their adult at Owl’s Hill Nature Sanctuary, led by an educator with discovery, crafts, and outdoor exploration. Spring 2026 sessions run Wednesdays from 10:00–11:30 AM March 25–April 29, with topics like Animal Tails, Paws & Claws, Fossil Find, Buggy for Springtime, Terrific Tadpoles, and All About Owls; registration is for the full six-week series and costs $165 per adult/child pair ($125 per additional child), with no strollers or unregistered siblings and limited space.
- Spring Hill Lions Club Summer 2026 Softball & T-Ball Registration (Ages 4–12) – Registration for the Spring Hill Lions Club Summer 2026 softball and t-ball season closes Friday, March 27; pricing details are listed on their website. Divisions include T-Ball (ages 4–5), Coach Pitch (ages 6–8), Minor League Softball (ages 9–10), and Major League Softball (ages 11–12), with evaluations and draft on April 11, practices beginning May 2, games starting May 26, and no regular games the week of July 4.
- RISE Co-Ed Flag Football for Grades K–High School (Spring Hill) – Co-ed RISE Flag Football league hosted by Battle Creek Touchdown Club at Battle Creek High School for players kindergarten through high school. Regular registration ends March 29, 2026 (late registration April 12), with games on April 18, 25 (double header), May 2 (double header), 9, 16, and championships on May 17; the season features 6v6 play on a 25×50 yard field, six to eight games including playoffs and consolation games, and each player receives a New Balance game jersey and shorts, with optional RISE mouth guard and gameday wear available at signup.
- PFFL Youth Flag Football League – Columbia – PFFL Youth is expanding its locally built youth flag football league in Columbia after a great turnout at evaluations and is keeping registration open through age 15 for this final week of sign-ups for players ages 5–15. League highlights include a 10‑game season, practice on game day, awards for champions in each division, and a tournament‑style experience.
However this week looks for your family, I hope this guide makes it a little easier to get out of the house when you want to. And if you are in the mood for something low-key and less-structured, you can always pull up the stroller-friendly walks and trails or the Columbia mural walk and scavenger hunt.
We so appreciate the local businesses that help keep this guide free for families, including Baltzer Marketing and Farmer Fred’s Wife. Please take a moment to check out their websites and follow them on social media to show your support.

I hope this guide gives you a mix of “do nothing” permission and easy “why not?” ideas, whether that looks like skipping a busy Saturday completely or popping into a low-key event you might not have found on your own.
If you’d like to help keep this free weekly guide going, you can use the optional Venmo link to chip in toward hosting costs and the behind-the-scenes work it takes to keep everything updated.
